Once the “formal” family portraits are finished, it is so much fun to finish with a splash! This gorgeous family brought floaties and jumped and played in our blue waters of Seven Mile Beach.

This little guy was the perfect beach baby during his newborn photos at Spotts Beach here in Grand Cayman. He was just chillin as we got some rustic photos of this adorable little man in one of Cayman’s most beautiful settings. His gorgeous mum and grandmother were there with him and we had so much fun with this little beach bum.

There are many different factors that contribute to a photoshoot’s success; the weather, the amount of clouds in the sky, the sun, the people (especially when little people are involved), and the list goes on. It doesn’t matter how many times I photograph on this beach, it looks different each time. On this evening all the stars aligned to make this mama’s shoot nothing short of spectacular.
At 34 weeks pregnant, Sasha is the embodiment of glowing! Of course it helps that she knows how to dress and accessorize, but like style, elegance can’t be bought with money and this girl has both. Photographing her and her beautiful baby bump was dreamy in every sense of the word and we had so much fun! Three year old Lola joined us for a few pictures. I’d say she’s pretty excited to become a big sister 😉
The shoot ended on a high note as we witnessed a recently hatched baby turtle make its way down to the ocean (see last photo). In my five years of living on the island, this was the first time I saw this. It was emotional and wonderful all at the same time!

Seven Mile Beach | Fun In The Sun

I had so much fun collaborating with Sophie & Harriet from Lustic Life! I asked for them to help me out with a fun idea for a photo session. I envisioned our very own Seven Mile Beach, sun dresses, big sun hats, sun glasses, island drinks with umbrellas, coconuts and pineapples, and the ultimate floaties. Nothing says summer more; especially Cayman summers!

If by some miracle you haven’t noticed its really hot out there! No matter how much I reassure my clients that they are looking like a million dollars in every shot I take, they cant help but feel like a hot mess, melting like a popsicle!
That of course lead to the thought; my clients need to feel great during our sessions, but how can they feel great standing in the hot sand with the sun beaming down on them fully dressed? How can I make them feel great? Thats when I decided this summer I want to promote the ultimate Beach Mini Sessions!

First of all plan for the ultimate fun beach day under the sun! Wear your bathing suits, and bring your floaties! (On Island you can get floaties like this one and more from Belle by Celebrations and lets have some fun under the sun! Im going to be running these awesome mini sessions for the whole month of August! “Me & My Island BFF” so don’t miss out!

Thanks so much to Sophie and Harriet for helping me to create exactly the kind of session i envisioned – an island fun and playful under the sun kinda day. You girls Rocked it!

I loved this location session, and it is an especially special one to me as I photographed this little girl as a newborn baby. That newborn session just happens to have been one of my very first sessions when I first started working here at Picture This Studios.

So what an honor it is to be capturing such precious moments such as these of them together as a family even now, a year later! It’s true when they say time flies when your having fun, not just for me and my passion for photography, but for them too, as a family. To watch their beautiful daughter grow; the first year of your babies life is one the most crucial times. It’s when you really experience so much, and learn so much about this little person that she is growing up to be. You really grow together as a family, and thats the most beautiful thing. Having these moments of your life photographed is one of the best gifts to your families future selves!

Beautiful Engagement Photography |Cayman Islands

Peta-Gaye is from Jamaica and Brendan is from Canada. They met in Grand Cayman, and thats where their love story begins. I had the honor of getting to know this sweet couple over shooting this beautiful engagement session with the two of them. When I am photographing couples who are as much in love as they are, my job is so effortless! I am just capturing what is plainly standing right in front me, which is their genuine happiness.

Peta-Gaye wanted their engagement photos to have an island feel and look about them. We chose West Bay dock for their location for several reasons. I love shooting at WestBay dock, it is one of my favorite locations, and for them, I knew it would be perfect because there is so much around this one area that really gives you that local vibe, and is just gorgeous in photos! You have the dock and the beach right there, and some local buildings with those pretty Caribbean colors! I’m so happy for them, and excited too for them to begin their beautiful adventures in life together. What an honor it was for me to be part of this…

What a beautiful session this turned out to be! Would you believe that just minutes before these gorgeous shot were taken we had rain, and when it rains in Cayman it pores! Im so grateful that some how I was able to make this happen for this beautiful family! As its not every day that the whole family gets to be together in one place at the same time, you learn to cherish these precious moments and take advantage of every minute together, and you do not take this for granted! I know what this photo shoot meant to this wonderful family, and so I’m happy that I was able to adventure them around chasing patches of clear blue skies where ever we found. – Tanya

QUESTIONS FOR THE FAMILY-

Session Location and Why you chose it: We originally chose West Bay dock for the photo shoot. However because of rain Tanya suggested we move the shoot to other locations and it worked out so well. We got some really good photos.
Weather Conditions on day of session: It was raining and then we had some clear skies and lots of sun.
What is your favorite family activity?
Who are the members of your family and tell me a quick fact about each person: Nadine (and husband) – lives in Cayman Wendy (and family)- lives in Zambia Daniel (and family) – lives in Canada Mom – lives in JamaicaThis was a family reunion and the photo shoot meant a lot to us as we do not get to see each other often and also to be together in one location.
Tell me about your favorite part of our session, or why you enjoyed the session I love the fact we were able to go to different locations
Tell me about the outfits you wore to the shoot (where you bought them, why you chose them, etc) I wanted Mom to really stand out so we chose a bright colour for her.
What props did you bring and why? My nephew Rhys did not want to leave his turtle – “Sheldon” so the turtle came along with us in some of the shots
What are some words of wisdom you have for other families preparing for a family session? Have fun! Rhys was not happy at first and he surely made that known as you can see in some of the photos…which I thought was cute and real!
Where you worried about any parts of the session beforehand? If so, what were your worries? We were worried about the rain. This was “take 2” for us because we had to reschedule from the day because of rain …but it really worked out. Thanks Tanya!!!

I had a great time on the beach with this lovely family taking shots of them upon the gorgeous sands and blue waters of Seven Mile Beach. Little Amelia loved running up and down on the sands and through the water getting her feet wet. If this did not tire her out, this little bundle of energy enjoyed being playfully swung up in the air by her Father followed by a cooling off splash in the sea.

There is so much that I just loved about this family session!

To start off with, I find so much joy in photographing families with small children. This is one of the great parts of being a lifestyle family photographer; toddlers are such busy little people, so unpredictable, and yet you still can have such a strong connection with them. You can plainly see in these photographs the bond between this little sweet heart and her mom and dad. I am so grateful for the ability to draw her attention towards my camera and capture her emotion or expression in that instant moment, otherwise it would be gone in the blink of an eye!

Now let me tell you why location sessions give me more ability and opportunity for those real quality shots.
Little ones are so curious all the time! So when I take families on a location, this gives them all the space they need to run, play, and have fun, naturally as kids do. It gives them the freedom to explore, and to get distracted with all thats around them in the great out doors! As for me I am just following them around with my camera, waiting for that perfect shot, not knowing how it will unfold, but knowing that it will!

What was it that was particularly special about photographing this session? It was exciting times for mom, dad and for this little girl too, who is a soon to be big sister! Whether or not she is too young to recognize that, these photos will be something precious to her one day. More love, life, and joy to be shared in this beautiful growing family! And to see it in these stages, these milestones are to keep forever!

Grand Cayman Islands Photographers | Saying Goodbye

Some of you may already know that I’m currently on maternity leave. My Caribbean little baby will be here any day now so if you’re noticing decreased activity on our Facebook page from me it’s because I am at home snuggling my little babe. 🙂 I’ll be back to regular scheduled shooting and posting in October.

I wanted to give a big shout out to my lovely clients who have been so sweet in the last few weeks and for all the well wishes and gifts! Thank you for letting a VERY pregnant photographer still capture your memories up until the last weeks of my pregnancy. I do plan on visiting home (Canada) for a little bit during my maternity leave so you might see some photos I take while I’m there! You can’t get rid of me that easy! 😉

Okay enough about that and back to the blog! This session with Jen and Dan was one of my recent favourites and actually my very last session I photographed. Jen contacted me a few weeks back letting me know that the pair would be leaving the island and wanted to remember the Grand Cayman with a photoshoot. So that’s what we did…we drove around the island and created some new memories.
