Cayman is such a special place for so many reasons. The beauty, the small lovely community, and the people that have come together from lands far away and formed a bond that lasts a lifetime. I say this because like these two beauties that met here and fell in love, so did I!

Ben and Ashley got engaged at good old Smith’s Cove (Smiths Barcadere) and we had the most beautiful evening taking photos to commemorate this once in a lifetime occasion.

Rose and Rob wanted to have an engagement shoot on their favorite beach. That beach being cemetery beach in West Bay, which made for a perfect backdrop for this photo shoot. Blessed with a pinky-purpley sunset we set about capturing this lovely couples images. With little convincing these two were more than happy to continue the set and cool off in the water, timing the lighting to perfection as the sun came down for a few silhouette photos. Looking forward to their big day in 2019!

Priscilla & Erick wanted to celebrate their engagement with a photo shoot to show their friends and family. On discussion with the lovely couple they wanted to have a shoot at sunset to capture the golden sunset and to have their shoot ideally located away from the beach and in a more rustic field setting. So once we set a date and researched our location we set about doing the shoot, except every time we were due to shoot the weather stopped us in our tracks! Eventually, we managed to get out and do the shoot, and our patience were rewarded with the most spectacular golden sunset. So it just goes to prove, good things come to those who wait!

There is definitely a theme developing in my most recent blogs, where I appear to be taking a lot of shoots at Spotts Beach. I absolutely adore this beach and it has to be one of my favorites on island if not my absolute favorite. The lovely stretch of sand, the dock over the water, the shade from underneath the palm trees the rocky outcrop at the end of the beach, and least not the amazing green turtles. This beach makes for a truly stunning photo location.

With this in mind the location was easily chosen with our two superb models Kamilla & Christien for this great engagement styled shoot. Several wardrobe changes later and after moving around the various locations on the beach we achieved our goal of obtaining all the shots that we were after. With the light quickly fading we called it a day, opened a few bottle of beers and looked back over the images that we had captured. A great end to great day of shooting!

Peta-Gaye is from Jamaica and Brendan is from Canada. They met in Grand Cayman, and thats where their love story begins. I had the honor of getting to know this sweet couple over shooting this beautiful engagement session with the two of them. When I am photographing couples who are as much in love as they are, my job is so effortless!  I am just capturing what is plainly standing right in front me,  which is their genuine happiness.

Peta-Gaye wanted their engagement photos to have an island feel and look about them. We chose West Bay dock for their location for several reasons. I love shooting at WestBay dock, it is one of my favorite locations, and for them, I knew it would be perfect because there is so much around this one area that really gives you that local vibe, and is just gorgeous in photos! You have the dock and the beach right there, and some local buildings with those pretty Caribbean colors!  I’m so happy for them, and excited too for them to begin their beautiful adventures in life together. What an honor it was for me to be part of  this…

Natalyia & Bryant were just recently on vacation visiting family in Cayman Islands. Bryant was waiting for the perfect moment to propose to his beautiful girlfriend Nataliya. Not only did he want the moment to be perfect, he wanted to surprise her. He was afraid she might find out as they were traveling together and he has had the ring with him the whole time. After just spending their entire gorgeous day together on the beach, Bryan had heard from some local bartenders at Royal Palms Beach Club that they are lucky because the weather in Cayman has been rainy lately and this was the first nice day in a few days. After hearing this Bryant felt sure that its was finally the perfect moment to pop the question over the most gorgeous sun set!

And thats where I come in!

It was such a pleasure to capture their engagement photos at the exact same spot on Seven Mile Beach that they got engaged! I had a wonderful time photographing this special occasion with Nataliya & Bryant. I was happy to meet this couple, get to know them a little bit, and photograph the beginning of their love story. Here’s how their photos turned out, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.  I find these photographs sum up pretty much who they are together, classy, fun, adventurous, spontaneous, lively, and madly in love!

Congratulations to Amy & James who recently got engaged here on Seven Mile Beach. James Kelsall and Amy Ochsner met in college and dated for 5 years before James proposed to Amy. He had always dreamed of popping the question to Amy here in Grand Cayman and got the opportunity on his families recent vacation to the island. Everything went to plan and James got down on one knee outside his families vacation home (with me strategically positioned hiding my camera on a sun lounger and James’ family secretly watching from behind the blinds). A massive congratulations to the happy couple who plan on getting married in the fall of 2017.

On July 1st my sweet little newborn baby boy Shea James Keenan was born at George Town Hospital, Grand Cayman.  I had the absolute best care and experience with all the doctors and nurses.
It’s been a beautiful last 4 months with my baby on maternity leave. I went back home to Canada for the majority of my  leave to spend time with my family. Of course, the photographer in me still had to do some sessions in the beautiful autumn light (will be blogging some of my favourites soon) but having the grandparents spend the entire 4 months with my kiddies was just the best.
A week after Shea’s birth it was time to do his newborn photos! Still recovering from a c-section I was not up to doing a shoot at all but I did space it out over the course of 2 days.
So here’s my confession…. I LOVE minimalist, simple, natural, and pure images of newborns! To be clear, I still love sweet photos of babies in cute props and buckets and all that lovely colour. I still smile when I see images like that. BUT for me, what really pulls at my heart strings are the more simpler images of just baby. There are amazing photographers in this industry that can photograph babies in props like no other.  It’s a beautiful thing to have so many different styles of photography. With my first, I put her in all the cutesy props but with Shea I had a different vision. I had my baby lead the way when I photographed him. I am in love with him and his photos and I hope you enjoy them, too!

I had great fun taking images for Melissa & Johann’s surprise engagement shoot. Pretending to take photos on another shoot, I quickly changed my attention to Johann who discreetly signaled to me that he was ready to perform the deed. Swinging my camera around I captured Johann getting down on one knee and popping the question………..”She said Yes”. We had a lovely sunset to set the tone of this romantic occasion, all set on this beautiful part of Seven Mile beach. Congratulations to this lovely couple and we wish you well in married life together.
