The sun was blazing and the music was blaring – it’s the time of year again… Carnival time! We love capturing Batabano in Grand Cayman every year, it’s arguably the Cayman Islands’ biggest cultural event. What’s great about the event is just how much fun everyone who participates seems to have. The energy the Cayman people put into Batabano every year works wonders for the photographers who follow them from Public Beach to George Town. We can’t wait for Batabano next year!

Aloe Blacc Concert | Kimpton Seafire Stage | Grand Cayman

The last couple of years has seen some big name bands come and perform here in Grand Cayman. Last year we had Third Eye Blind perform and this year our eardrums were serenaded with the super talented Aloe Blacc and his equally talented band at the Kimpton Seafire Stage at the Kimpton Seafire Resort & Spa. Performing such chart hits as “I Need A Dollar“, “I’m The Man” and “Wake Me Up” the Cayman audience were soon dancing and singing along to these great tunes. We had great fun shooting the concert and look forward to hopefully capturing future events at this great location.

I don’t know about you, but 2016 went by in an absolute flash! Before we knew it, here at Picture This Studios, we were getting preparations ready for New Years Eve. Our colleagues at Camana Bay put on an awesome evening of entertainment. Fireworks filled the skies, music filled the air, and celebrations were shared by all.

Cayman Island Photographers | Natalie & Brandon’s Rehearsal Dinner

Natalie & Brandon adore Grand Cayman. They have spent several vacations on the island enjoying the beaches, lazy days and glorious sunsets. So what better place to choose to have your wedding than Grand Cayman. Here is a snippet of the collection from their rehearsal dinner located at the Beachcomber Condominiums Seven Mile Beach. Despite the early threat of rain to the evening, the skies cleared to reveal a lovely sunset and a perfect setting for the proceedings. Great food, flowing drinks, laughs and jokes and all in the company of good friends and family. Congratulations to the happy couple and we wish them all the best in married life together.

Wedding Anniversary at the Kimpton Seafire Resort & Spa, Grand Cayman.

The end of November is a very special month for us as it marks our first wedding anniversary. We got married in Grand Cayman and wanted to celebrate our first year together somewhere special on island. It happened to be that the Kimpton Seafire was opening the very week of our anniversary, so we decided to spend the weekend at Cayman’s newest hotel resort.

From the moment that we stepped through the front doors of the resort we knew we had found somewhere very special. Still holding our glasses of champagne that we had received at reception we opened the door to our room for the next two nights. We were greeted with a spectacular view over the pool area and over Seven Mile Beach. The room was luxurious, spacious, clean, bright and modern. Walking through the resort the luxurious theme continued with the spectacular pool overlooking the beach. We sampled the food at the three main restaurants and were blown away with the food and the excellent service.

We can categorically say that we had an amazing time at the Kimpton Seafire. I hope that we do not have to wait too long before we can stay there again!

Cayman Island Photographers | IMAC Gala 2016

I had the honor of photographing the 2016 IMAC (Insurance Mananagers Association of Cayman) black tie gala and Scholarship Fundraiser. The event, located at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort, was the 5th incarnation of the well respected gala. The event included a reception, a delicious dinner, an auction as well an opportunity to get up on the dance floor. All profits from the auction were donated to an educational scholarship fund. Through its scholarship programme IMAC hopes to give back to Cayman through the development of young Caymanian talent. This years scholarship student guest speaker was Erica Erica Powell, who graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Early Childhood. The IMAC Scholarship is providing the funding for 13 students to pursue their overseas college educations, and has sent 38 Caymanian students to complete post-secondary education. The evening was a great success with more proceeds raised for the education scholarship. I always enjoy these corporate events, particularly shooting the photobooths where people can relax and let their hair down. With Christmas fast approaching don’t forget to book early for your work Christmas parties and functions.

What an amazing day watching and capturing Cayman Carnival Batabano 2016. Each year the parade gets bigger, better, louder and even more elaborate. My day started off at Public beach watching the steady influx of Carnival Queens and Kings arrive in their feathered and sequined regalia. At 1pm precisely the procession started with the Flow jumpers leading the parade down West Bay Road. They were closely followed by the likes of Tribal Cayman and Swanky International all the way down to Harbour Drive in George Town. Despite the tired legs, the heat and the occasional one too many drinks everybody looked like they had an amazing day. I for one had great fun mixing with the parades and the crowds and taking images of the day.

Cayman Invitational | Usain Bolt | Event Photography

Making his first strides on the road to the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in August, Usain Bolt crossed the finish line in 10.05 seconds to take first place at this years Cayman Invitational. The fastest man in the world still garners much respect from fellow competitors as well as Mosquitoes – who refuse to bite him purely out of that respect. The invitational was a huge success as large crowds of supporters attended the event and International media coverage was present (ESPN). Full access was given to Picture This Studios to photograph the festivities and the legendary athlete.

Junior Batabano 2016

A week prior to the Cayman Carnival Batabano, the Junior Batabano 2016 parade took place with local youngsters dancing through the streets in their most colorful parade outfits. This years outfits reflected the theme of “Neverland” with troupe parades of Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, parrots and merpeople amongst others. The bright and colorful display through George Town was supported by a good crowd who cheered the youngsters on.
I had great fun at the parade watching all the various troupes and great dance routines on display. The Junior Batabano was an excellent warm up to the Adult Batabano on Saturday 7th May. Off The Beaten Track | Cayman Islands Sports Events

It was another beautiful day in the Cayman Islands and a great day for shooting Cayman’s only off the road 50k Ultra Marathon and relay race. Off The Beaten Track was completed by over 500 individuals. The event organized by KRyS Global and Race Caribbean proved to be an amazing event. It never ceases to amaze me the time, dedication and the commitment both the organizers and the participants put into these events. I think you all are a little crazy running in that heat especially those of you completing the 50k, but I also take my hat off to you! Congratulations to the individual race winners and to the relay team winners and well done to all those who completed the race. I look forward to seeing you all at the next event!
